HISTORY

In December of 2002, the people of Davis Inlet began their journey to the new community of Natuashish. One of the shining stars of this new community was the $10 million school which opened in January 2003. Finally, the children had a school that they could be proud about, because this school, unlike the old school in Davis Inlet, could compete with any other school in the country. The school’s new name was Mushuau Innu Natuashish School.

When the school year began in September 2003, Mushuau Innu Natuashish School boasted a complete compliment of teachers. For the first time, the staff in Natuashish was able to offer a whole range of courses. Students from Kindergarten to Level One were able to partake in courses like physical education, music, art, technology, home economics and industrial arts, alongside regular curriculum courses. The enthusiasm that was building within the school was contagious and more and more students were attracted and enticed to stay.

Over that last 5 years, the school in Natuashish has continued to make great strides. Students enjoy coming to school and the staff love to have them here. Hopefully, we will continue on this new path and we will see even greater results!
